Monday, March 12, 2018, Jackson, WY – The Jackson/Teton County Affordable Housing Department released their Draft Housing Rules and Regulations Update as part of the larger Engage Planning process on Friday. The draft update is the result of extensive public outreach and comment, as well as staff and stakeholder input. In 2017, a total of 612 community members participated in various outreach efforts that informed the draft updates via public meetings, surveys, public comment, and other methods.
In addition to all of the public engagement that has taken place throughout the process that began last Spring, there are multiple public meetings in the months ahead that will provide opportunities for review and comment.
The following meetings are scheduled:
- Jackson/Teton County Housing Authority Board – March 19, 1:00pm at the Teton County Public Health Building (460 E. Pearl Ave.)
- Town Council and Board of County Commissioners First Review – March 21, 2018, 2:00pm at Town Hall
- Town Council and Board of County Commissioners First Reading – April 11, 2018, 6:00pm at Town Hall
- Town Council and Board of County Commissioners Second Reading – May 21, 2018, 2:00pm at Town Hall
- Town Council and Board of County Commissioners Third Reading and Adoption – June 4, 2018, 3:00pm at Town Hall
The Affordable Housing Rules and Regulations govern who qualifies to live in an Affordable Housing Department home and what restrictions apply to living in an Affordable Housing Department home. The most significant change to the current rules and regulations involves the selection process for an affordable home. The new selection process is a weighted lottery, in which applicants receive points that translate into entries in a lottery for an affordable home. Applicants who have worked longer in the community or who work as critical service providers will receive more points and will therefore have greater chances of being drawn as the winner of the lottery.
This change is intended to favor longer-term workers and critical service providers in the community, as well as create a more transparent and efficient process.
