Teton County Seeks Business Involvement in Food Waste Compost Program: A Sustainable Step Towards a Greener Community
Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling (ISWR) proudly announced the launch of its Commercial Food Waste Compost Program in July of 2022. This initiative aims to reduce landfill bound food waste from local businesses while fostering a more sustainable and environmentally conscious community. Diverting organic waste is the single fastest and easiest thing every single American can do to fight climate change.
Since the program’s inception, participating businesses and organizations have diverted over 35 tons of food waste from the landfill, moving the needle one step closer to the County’s overall goal of 60% waste diversion by 2030 and other Town and County sustainability targets.
Teton County intentionally started the program slowly with specific early adopters to explore challenges and overcome hurdles. Danny Reed with the Jackson Hole High School was excited to represent the School District’s participation saying, “This program has been so awesome, and we look forward to starting back up this Fall at Jackson Hole High School and Jackson Hole Middle School. I just wanted to say thank you for this year as it was a trial period, and everything was so easygoing/clear and worked well”.
ISWR is ready to expand the Food Waste Compost Program and begin onboarding more local restaurants and food-producing businesses.
