Did you know that Americans create up to 25% more garbage during the holiday season? 'Tis the Season to Recycle, starting with your Christmas trees.
Through January, you can bring your trees to the Rodeo Grounds for composting, instead of being trucked to a landfill. Just make sure they are cleaned of all ornaments, lights and tinsel.
If it's more convenient, residents may also bring their trees directly to the Trash Transfer Station (5400 West U.S. Highway 16/191/89) to the tree compost pile there during regular business hours. The same rules apply — trees must be cleaned of all ornaments, lights and tinsel and free of trash. Residents should let the scale house know what they are dropping off, and the tree drop will be free of charge. (Trees that still have lights, ornaments, etc., cannot be mulched and will be counted as trash and charged a fee.)
