Teton County Approves Modest Fee Increases for Transfer Station and Commercial Cardboard Recycling Services
Jackson, WY – On Tuesday, July 2, the Teton County Board of County Commissioners approved fee adjustments for the Teton County Transfer Station and Commercial Corrugated Cardboard (OCC) recycling services following a scheduled public hearing.
Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling (ISWR), which operates as an enterprise fund, relies on user fees rather than property taxes or general fund support to fund its operations. This model ensures that ISWR remains financially self-sufficient and accountable, with all revenues directly supporting the services it provides to the community.
Each year, ISWR develops its Transfer Station revenue budget by projecting material volumes, conducting a detailed cost analysis for each material stream, and calculating the total revenue needed to meet expenses. The division strives to strike a balance between maintaining fiscal responsibility and ensuring affordability for users.
The adopted fee increases, which average approximately 6%, are aligned with a 6% growth in ISWR’s overall budgeted expenses. Many of these rising costs are driven by multi-year contracts with built-in annual escalators ranging from 2% to 6%.
The new rates will go into effect at the start of Fiscal Year 2026, beginning July 2, 2025. These changes are designed to keep pace with operational costs while continuing to provide essential solid waste and recycling services to Teton County residents and businesses.
