With respiratory illness season approaching and cooler weather bringing more people indoors, the Teton County Health Department reminds the public to get your seasonal vaccinations. For seniors, flu vaccination is crucial because it significantly lowers their risk of severe illness, complications (such as pneumonia), hospitalization, and even death from the flu. It can also help reduce the severity of symptoms if they contract the flu. The best way to reduce your risk and the potentially serious complications of the flu is to get vaccinated every year. For questions relating to flu vaccines, please consult your primary care provider.
CDC and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) preferentially recommend the use of higher dose flu vaccines (including high-dose inactivated and recombinant) or adjuvanted inactivated flu vaccine over standard-dose unadjuvanted flu vaccines for people 65 years and older.
